A SCARBOROUGH man who assaulted his wife of 15 years leaving her in need of emergency surgery is due to be sentenced tomorrow.

Michael Jackson, 57, of Carr Lane, East Ayton, has already pleaded guilty to carrying out the attack, which happened on Sunday, May 1.

Scarborough Magistrates’ Court heard last month that the incident occurred outside the couple’s home after they had attended a beer festival at the Forge pub.

They became involved in an argument before Jackson struck his wife with what was described as a “sideswipe”.

She fell to the floor and hit her head on the doorstep.

Rather than calling an ambulance immediately, Jackson took his wife upstairs and called her daughter.

He said: “Your mum’s had a fall, I need a hand with her. Can you help?”

The daughter then arrived at the home and called an ambulance after seeing the amount of blood.

After she was taken to Scarborough Hospital, the woman was transferred to Hull where a blot clot was removed.

Jackson is due to answer conditional bail at York Crown Court tomorrow.
