CASH taken after it was left in a cash machine has been handed back to its rightful owner following a police appeal.
A customer had made the withdrawal of £290 from the ATM, outside the Co-op store in Newlands Park Drive just after 9.30am on Thursday.
But as the transaction took some time to complete, they left the machine before the money was delivered.
A short time later someone used the ATM and took the money before withdrawing money from their own account.
PC Tracey Brewster, of the Scarborough Safer Neighbourhood Team, said it would take the bank several days to provide the name of the person who used the machine, at which point she would visit their home to recover the money if it had not been returned by that point.
However, a spokesman confirmed to North Yorkshire Police that the money was handed in on Saturday – and the owner was so pleased he gave a £10 reward to the person who had returned it.
The spokesman added no action would be taken as they were satisfied a crime had not been committed.
