A SCARBOROUGH motorist has been hit with three points on his licence after being caught using a phone at the wheel.
Gareth England, 25, appeared at Scarborough Magistrates’ Court charged with using his mobile phone in Seamer Road.
Prosecuting, Sandra White said England, of Carrside, in Eastfield, was seen by police officers on the phone while driving his Vauxhall Combo van in February.
She said: “The officer pointed out that he had seen him using the phone, to which the defendant said he answered it to tell the person on the other end that he was driving.”
Mrs White added England had failed to provide both parts of his licence to officers at Scarborough police station.
England told the court he had simply mislaid the paper part of the licence during a house move.
Magistrates handed England three points on his licence and fined him £60.
He was also ordered to pay £45 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
