Police appeal for robbery information

Scarborough police have today released details of a robbery in the town as they seek to trace the suspect.

The incident occurred at around 3.10am on Sunday, August 5, when a 19-year-old local woman was walking in the Seamer Road area, near Premier Stores.

As she passed a man sitting on a wall he asked if her if she had a light. She told him that she didn’t and carried on walking.

A few moments later the man grabbed her from behind and knocked her to the floor.

He then stole her glittery grey fabric purse with a butterfly motif which contained a small amount of money and an identity card.

He also stole a silver oval pendant, with a floral engraving, on a silver chain.

The suspect is a white man aged his mid-twenties. He has short dark hair and a distinctive tattoo on his neck. At the time he wearing a dark jacket and trousers.

DC Jezz Pratt, of Scarborough CID, said: “Thankfully the woman was not seriously hurt during the robbery. However, the experience has naturally left her very shaken and upset.

“I urge anyone who can identify the man responsible for this robbery to contact the police or Crimestoppers straight away.”
