Scarborough police have released a CCTV image of a man following an alleged fraud in the town.

It occurred at 5pm on Friday, June 29, at the Opera House Casino in St Thomas Street.

The suspect entered the casino and asked a cashier to change Euros into pounds sterling. He then said that he had actually wanted the Euros changing for 10 Euro notes.

When the cashier explained that this was not possible the man passed back the sterling and asked for the original Euros back.

A short time later the cashier realised that £280 was missing from the till.

PC Alan Robson, of Scarborough Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “If you recognise the man caught on CCTV please contact the police or Crimestoppers as soon as possible.

“I am also appealing to the man caught on CCTV to come forward in case there has been a misunderstanding.”

Anyone who can help the police to identify the man caught on camera is asked to contact Scarborough police on 101, press option 2 and ask for Alan Robson.

Or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting reference number 12120107195.
