Checks were made on the car which showed the driver did not have valid insurance to allow him to drive the vehicle, therefore it was seized under Section 165 of the Road Traffic Act and the driver was reported for the offence.

A spokesperson said: "If you find yourself in this predicament, pull your vehicle to the left side of the road, illuminate your hazard lights and call your breakdown services.

"All road users should ensure their vehicles are checked regularly. Being on top of the maintenance of your car, van or bike will reduce the chance of breaking down whilst driving.

"A winter service can help keep your vehicle safe and legal too."
