Police stop moped in Scarborough and find it has no working front brake

Police are warning drivers to check their vehicles after stopping a moped in Scarborough with no front brake.

Officers stopped the rider because he was not displaying a rear L plate but while checking the moped, they found there was no brake pad material at the front - making that brake completely worthless.

North Yorkshire Roads Policing Team posted on social media: "Despite initially trying to convince us that it had 'just happened', he then admitted to knowing about the fault.

"He was reported for the offence and a prohibition notice was issued preventing the bike from being ridden until the defect is fixed and it passed an MOT."
