Reveller fined for being drunk in public

A 26-YEAR-OLD Scarborough reveller has admitted being drunk and disorderly after celebrating the recent Royal Wedding.

Ivan Dixon, of Niso Terrace, was stopped by police in Somerset Terrace after one of the officers saw him sticking two fingers up at them at about 11.05pm on Friday, April 29.

Steve Ovenden, prosecuting, said it was “perhaps not the worst case of its kind”. He said: “He was stood in the doorway of Debenhams and as they walked past he gestured with two fingers. The officers warned him about his abusive behaviour and he apologised and said he wouldn’t do it again. But they saw the same gesture.”

He added that Dixon was placed on the ground and handcuffed.

Dixon, who represented himself at Scarborough Magistrates Court, said in mitigation that he was drunk. He added: “It was out of order, I was drunk. It was the wedding.”

He was fined £45 and ordered to pay £55 in court costs.
