Latest police figures show that there were more people fined for breaking lockdown rules in the Scarborough borough than in the whole of West Yorkshire, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Humberside combined.

As of June 26, North Yorkshire Police had issued 1,171 fixed penalty notices relating to coronavirus.

Of those, 57 per cent were issued to visitors to the area.

Most were issued to people aged between 18 and 35.

In Scarborough, 452 people have been fined - 247 to visitors and 205 to visitors.

Men have been more likely to be found breaking lockdown rules, with 333 men fined compared to 119 women.
