POLICE in Scarborough are urging witnesses to come forward after two young girls were picked up off the street and taken to a town near Middlesbrough.

The girls, who are believed to be aged 16, are thought to have got into the back of a white Ford van after being approached by two men in the Eastborough area late on Friday night.

They were found at 1.45am on Saturday morning at an address in Great Ayton, near Stokesley. They were found safe and well, and unharmed.

Police are now urging anyone with any information to come forward.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said: “Detectives in Scarborough are investigating the circumstances around how two local girls were taken from the town to an address in Great Ayton.

“Two men aged 23 and 29 from Great Ayton who were arrested in connection with the incident have now been released on police bail to allow for further inquiries.

”Anyone who was in the Eastborough area of Scarborough in the vicinity of Blands Cliff between 11.30pm Friday July 22 and 12.10am Saturday July 23 2011 and may have seen two girls getting into the back of a white Ford van is asked to contact the police.”
