Scarborough residents top for breaching Covid lockdown rules in North Yorkshire

The borough has received the highest amount of fixed penalty notices issued by police for breaches of coronavirus regulations since January 12.

A total of 57 notices were issued in the last week, 47 of which were to local residents and 10 to visitors. There was a total of 46 illegal indoor gatherings.

Scarborough borough has now received 106 fines in total, the highest amount in the county, since the third lockdown began on January 6.

It follows the news that party-goers in Whitby were fined over the weekend for breaching restrictions.

The total number of fines issued in North Yorkshire since January 6 now stands at 241, after 134 were issued in the last week across all counties.
