Snainton resident receives scam calls relating to coronavirus

North Yorkshire Police are warning the public after a resident in Snainton received a scam call relating to coronavirus.

Yesterday (Sunday April 20), the resident reported to the police that the caller gave them advice over what to do during lockdown, telling them they must stay inside.

The caller also told the resident they would be sent two masks, two hand gels and gloves and asked for their address.

At this point the scammer said the cost of this equipment would be £29 and asked for bank details.

In this instance the resident correctly identified the call to be a scam and instead reported it to the police.

The phone number used was 02080402745

The force has said if you receive a call like this:

- Hang up

- Do not engage with the caller

- Do not provide personal details

- Do not provide bank details

If you have provided your details to a caller such as this, contact your bank immediately then call police on 101.
