Trial over badger death

SEVEN men aged between 17 and 37 are due to stand trial in Scarborough accused of wilfully killing a badger, hunting a mammal with dogs, interfering with a badger sett and causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal.

The alleged incident is said to have occurred at Howsham, near York, on January 30 this year.

The hearing, which starts today at Scarborough Magistrates’ Court, is expected to last five days.
