Vigilance urged following Scarborough burglary

Scarborough police are urging residents to be vigilant as they appeal for information following an overnight burglary.

Between 1.30am and 9.30am yesterday, burglars entered a property on Scalby Avenue through an unlocked door.

They stole a Samsung Galaxy mobile phone, a Casio G-shock watch, an old air rifle with a broken spring and other smaller items.

Police are appealing for anyone who saw any suspicious people or activity in the area on Saturday night or Sunday morning to contact them. They would also like to hear from anyone who has been offered the items for sale.

They have also re-issued their advice to home owners to take basic crime prevention measures.

Detective Constable Andy Hall of Scarborough CID, said: “Although North Yorkshire is a low crime area, if thieves see an opportunity to steal they will take it. Even just taking some very simple measures can ensure that you don’t fall victim to burglars.

“Always lock your doors and windows even if you are at home - thieves are opportunistic, if they see a chance to get in to your house easily they will take it.

“In addition, use a burglar alarm if you have one, install security lighting and if you have a garage make sure you use it to secure your vehicle at night.”

If you have any information about the burglary, please contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 - select option 2 - and ask for Scarborough CID. Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
