Officers from Scarborough's Community Impact Team were on patrol on Burniston Road on Friday night when police said the Toyota Hilux's driver drew their attention "by the manner of his driving which was likely to cause alarm and distress to other road users".

Police are able to give Section 59 warnings for anti-social driving and can then seize vehicles if drivers are found to be committing the same offence within 12 months of a warning.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said "It's not about how many people are prosecuted, it's how we can educate drivers to stay safe on our roads.

"Scarborough is popular with locals and visitors who use the seafront for different leisure activities. By everyone driving to the correct standard of a competent driver, it helps to reduce the risk of accidents.

"Anti-social driving doesn't always mean that a driver is speeding, sometimes we have to look at drivers not being in control of their vehicles."

To report concerns about anti-social driving, call police via 101.
