BRIDLINGTON

The Bridlington season reaches its height next week when the Royal Yorkshire Yacht Club hold their annual regatta. There will be 15 cups and many prizes, the total value being about £6OO.

The week begins with the annual fleet review, and there will be racing every day, ending on Saturday with the Ocean Race to Scarborough. On Friday night there will be the Regatta Dinner and distribution of prizes. Tomorrow the Spa Repertory Company end their season with “Admirals All” on Monday “Lovers Leap” is to be given for a week by a special company at the Spa Theatre.

SCARBOROUGH

Scarborough, now fully launched on the high season, is thronged with visitors. A party of German boys, touring the country under the auspices of the Youth Hostel Movement, arrive in the town today.

Nearly 2.000 officers and men of the 147th Infantry Brigade, consisting of the 5th, 6th and 7th Battalions of the Duke Wellington’s (West Riding) Regiment, are camping on the Racecourse, and on Monday they will be inspected by the G.0.C. in Chief the Northern Command, General Sir Alexander Wardrop.

Scarborough’s great attraction now is, of course, “Carmen,” at the open-air theatre. The town is famous for its productions at this theatre, but there is an opinion widely held that “Carmen“ presented on Mondays and Thursdays—surpasses all previous productions.

Those n Scarborough on Sunday will have the opportunity of hearing the noted Cafe Colette Orchestra, which is visiting the Floral Hall that night.

Physical Jerks on the beach are still popular. Mr. J. Pollard, a qualified instructor specially engaged by the Corporation, supervises classes on both the North and the South shores daily.

BLACKPOOL

Gracie Fields comes to Blackpool next week. That is enough to put the town on the map so far as Lancashire is concerned.

She will have a tremendous welcome as usual when she returns to her native county, and the Grand Theatre management is fully prepared for a week of packed houses.

The Pleasure Beach will continue to draw its thousands, but organised outdoor attractions in Blackpool are scarce next week. The only sporting event of importance is a swimming competition on Wednesday, and after Cricket Weeks, Highland Games Weeks, and National Swimming Galas, this seems strange. Blackpool holldaymakers. however, find their own amusements, and there are plenty of facilities for them.

Public tennis courts have been in use as early as eight o’clock in the morning this week.

REDCAR

Special illuminations will be in full use at Redcar from next week to the end of the season. The Cleveland Golf Club’s popular open meeting begins on Thursday and lasts over the weekend.

WHITBY

Whitby Yacht Club are off to Bridlington for a cruise on Sunday and the motor boat section of the club will compete in a Cup Race on Wednesday night.

The Cottage Hospital Flower Day and an aquatic rag by the members of the Whitby Friendship Rowing Club will take place Saturday next.

FILEY

There will be open-air dancing at Filey on Saturday, Monday and Wednesday and on Sunday evening Adrian King and his orchestra will give a special programme in the North Crescent Gardens.

Throughout the week Edgar Taylor presents The Lavender Follies at the Pavilion.

The weekend traffic for fishing in the Filey Bay is again expected to be heavy. Visitors have been getting good catches of fish.
