Luke Dean shunned the advances of a number of clubs further up the football pyramid to join Scarborough Athletic.

It was the opportunity of an exiting new challenge that brought the midfielder to the Scarborough Sport Village, a move he feels will be a successful one.

"I spoke to Steve Kittrick, Jamie Price and another of the new signings in Matt Dempsey, they persuaded me to come down and give it a go," he said.

"There were a few teams from the divisions above that I had spoken to, but Scarborough are a big club and a really exciting new challenge.

"This is a club that is going places and I want to be a part of that.

"The fan base is good for this level, which is something you need to have if you want to progress.

"Looking at the players they have and the players that they are talking to, they are arranging a strong squad and one that can win the league, which is something I came here to do."

The box-to-box midfielder is keen to give his all for the club to play his part in bringing in the silverware.

He added: "We need to come together as a squad and work very hard on the pitch, that is what I'll be doing for the club.

"My game is all about energy, getting from box to box and hopefully I'll be able to chip in with the occasional goal to keep us on track to where we want to be."
