Scarborough and District Dial a Ride is looking for new volunteers to join the team.

The charity, which is based at Londesborough Road Business Park, has recently had a number of its volunteers move on into paid employment.

Manager Julie Banks said: “We’ve had about seven people who have left us recently as they’ve found jobs.

“Obviously this is great for them and shows just how valuable volunteering can be when it comes to finding employment. However, it means that we need to find some new volunteer drivers and passenger escorts.”

The charity, which helps people get out and about thanks to its fleet of minibuses and fully accessible car, is asking people to come forward who can spare at least one full day a week.

Volunteers need to be 18 or over to become a passenger escort and 25 or over - with a full, clean licence - to be a driver.

Passenger escorts are people who help people from their front door to the bus and assisting throughout the journey.

No experience is necessary and full training will be given. Julie said: “Both roles would suit people who like getting out and about and meeting new people.

“We will give plenty of support, plus lots of tea and biscuits!” To find out more, call (01723) 354434 or go to www.scarboroughdialaride.org
