There will be jubilations on Thursday for one Scarborough couple as they celebrate their diamond wedding anniversary.
Richard and Laura Binley, both aged 84 of Mount Park Avenue, originally met on a blind date.
Richard said they went to the old Odeon Cinema but he could not recall what filom they saw on their first date. “We seemed to hit it off.”
The couple were married at the parish church in Thwing – a village on the Wolds. Laura said: “I went to school at Thwing – my father worked on a farm.”
Laura worked as a domestic in a private house and Richard was a fitter and turner at Erskine’s factory.
The couple have three children – Susanna, 57, Edwina, 54, and Richard, 50 – and six grandchildren.
They are planning to celebrate thier milestone anniversary with a family meal.
And as to the secret of a long marriage Laura said: “We both have our own opinions but we’ve never carried tham over into an argument. You just have to work at it.”
