A world record for the longest ever dog lead has been set on Scarborough’s North Bay beach.
Mike Southwick, manager at the Pets at Home Scarborough store in Seamer Road, worked with pet specialists to create the lead which spans two miles – more than four times the previous world record of 686 metres.
The new bright green lead measured 3,371.5 metres and the first dog to wear it was Colin, a Miniature Dachshund, owned by Alexandra Jane from Whitby.
Mr Southwick explained: “All of our Pets at Home stores in the North East asked customers to pay £1 to enter the draw for their dog to be photographed at the head of the lead.
“All money donated will go to Support Adoption For Pets, the charity established and supported by Pets at Home.”
A total of just over £4,500 was raised during the collection.
