LIFE’S a beach at this year’s Great Yorkshire Show thanks to a sandy donation from Scarborough.
The Welcome to Yorkshire Beach includes Scarborough donkeys William and Snowy, a Punch and Judy Show and candy floss.
The beach was created using ten tonnes of sand which was scooped from the shores of Scarborough by a team from Scarborough Council.
It was then driven more than 60 miles to the Great Yorkshire Show to create the spectacle – a first for the agricultural show.
Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: “It has been a terrific year so far for tourism in Yorkshire and we want to celebrate this at the Great Yorkshire Show. We’re bringing the shores of Scarborough all the way to Harrogate to give visitors a taste of our stunning seaside town.”
Cllr David Jeffels, Scarborough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Tourism and Culture, said: “People living in Scarborough and the many thousands of holidaymakers who head to the coast each year can already testify to the quality of our beaches.
“This is a wonderful idea and a great opportunity for visitors to the Great Yorkshire Show unfamiliar with Scarborough to get a flavour of the seaside.”
