Scarborough’s Dragon Boat race has been hailed the best yet after 1,400 people flocked to Wykeham Lakes for the popular event.
The fundraiser, organised by the Rotary Club of Scarborough Cavaliers, attracted 23 teams, which was a record in the event’s five-year history.
The winners were William Hare, who knocked last year’s victors Scarborough Rowing Club off the top spot.
The club scooped second place, with Choices Health Club in third and Kingfishers Swimming Club in fourth position.
Organiser Peter Howgate said: “It was a great day and our biggest event yet. More than 300 feedback cards were handed in and the response was very positive.
“In previous years the event has raised £7,000 to £8,000, so with more teams taking part this year we’re hoping for even more.”
Charities being supported at this year’s race include Ellie’s Fund, The Rainbow Centre, St Catherine’s Hospice and Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
