Edgehill Reserves beat Cayton to secure Saturday League second division crown

Edgehill Reserves secured the Scarborough Saturday League second division title after their 12-1 home success against a severely depleted Cayton Athletic team who ended the game with eight men.

Edgehill Reserves boss Alec Coulson said: "I’m absolutely chuffed to bits wrapping up the title with two games to go.

"We lost eight players from last season's title winning squad and replaced them with 16-year-olds.

"I’ve coached most of these lads since under-eights so to see them come through into the men’s league and wrap a title up in the first season is amazing”

A proud Coulson added: “Special thanks to assistant Andrew Noon who the young lads love.

"The young lads have been great, Freddie White, Max Wright, Connor Avison, Ted Edwards, Liam Coulson, Reuben Staveley, Brandyn Cooper, Olly Pulford, Josh Pickin and league top scorer Jake Reeves.”

Jake Moore led the way for the home side with four goals, while there two goals from sub Noon as well as goals from Reeves, Staveley, Pulford, Josh Fergus, Joseph Nock and Damien Robinson.

Noon was named man of the match, the veteran putting in a great performance for the champions.

Heinz Carlyle notched for Cayton, who started with a full team but without any subs and had three players go off injured.

FC Rosette claimed their shock 2-0 win at Eastway against West Pier Reserves thanks to a second-half double from Alex Wray.

George Loy was named man of the match for Rosette after a great display in his first game back from a long-term injury.

Harrie Leighton was named as man of the match for Pier.

Seamer Sports Reserves won 2-1 at home to Eastfield Athletic.

Daz Hastie's glancing header put the home side in front, then Jenson Bradbury's fine finish double the lead after the interval.

Tommy Day rifled a free-kick into the top corner from the halfway line to give Chris Bint's team hope of a comeback, but Seamer defended their lead well.

Man of the match for Seamer was defender Callum Webster, while Justin Trotter was the star man for pulling a string of fine saves off for Athletic.

Snainton were winning their home game against Eastfield Town 3-1 when it was abandoned by referee John Chalk after 75 minutes as a Town player refused to leave the pitch after earlier having been sent off

Saturday League secretary John Orrah said: "The league have been aware of the game between Snainton FC and Eastfield Town FC being abandoned and whole heartedly condemn the actions leading to this decision.

"No further comment will be made from the league until such time all the reports have been received and dealt with by the management committee."

Zac Hansen, Mike Webster and James Young were the scorers for Snainton.
