A SCARBOROUGH school’s jazz band has been handed a welcome boost to the tune of £350.
St Augustine’s School received the amount towards its upcoming Spanish tour thanks to a fundraising event organised by the Plaxton Court Residents’ Association.
Committee secretary Pam Hart said the money was raised at a special concert the band put on for residents.
She said: “The grandson of one of our residents plays in the band and on occasion he and his brother come along and entertain us.
“The band are doing very well and are going to Spain next week. They are trying to raise funds towards the trip and we put on an evening to try and put something on. The children came along and played Glen Miller and all sorts of jazz music.
“We put tea and biscuits on, and put a little collection bucket out, which went round the room, and people who put money in raised £350, which helps them along their way a little bit.”
She added: “Our residents enjoyed it so much and we have managed to persuade the band to come back again next year - and to bring the choir next time! We rely on outside support so it is nice to be able to reciprocate wherever possible.”
