STUDENTS in Scarborough are celebrating after their union became only the third in the country to win a national award.
The University of Hull Union, which covers the Scarborough Campus, has achieved a national Gold Award in the Student Union Evaluation Initiative.
The award recognises sustained excellence in providing for student members’ needs while they study at the university.
Matthew Brown, vice president of the Scarborough Campus union, said: “At Scarborough we are ecstatic to have been awarded the gold standard.
“I am extremely proud of the staff who work closely with the students to ensure that they have the best experience and support possible and to achieve this award as such a small campus is testament to their hard work and our continued working partnership with the University, the wider community of Scarborough and the students themselves.”
“The town of Scarborough should be extremely pleased with this news. Special thanks must go to the people of Scarborough for their continued support of both the University and the Students Union.
“This award has come at the end of a difficult time for us as an organisation following the death of the Director of HR and Membership Services Julie Watson in May and I would like to pay tribute to her hard work in helping us gain this award.”
Working in partnership with the National Union of Students and supported by the Department of Innovation, Universities and Skills and the Scottish Government, the Students’ Union Evaluation Initiative has been developed to make a positive difference to the lives of students at Universtiy, by improving the outcomes from their Students’ Unions.
