Ellie's course to help fund reach £250,000 mark

A Scarborough mother will celebrate what would have been her daughter's 21st birthday with an ultimate assault course.

The Scarborough charity Ellie’s Fund Brain Tumour Trust hopes to raise £21,000 by teaming up with Sniper Fitness and hosting a gruelling, but fun, W.A.R Games (Weekend Assault Race) 5K assault course.

If the target is reached it will mean the charity will have raised £250,000 since it was set up by Heather Othick, who lost her daughter, Ellie, to a brain tumour when she was just 14 years old.

Heather said: “Ellie’s Fund BTT supports children and young people across Yorkshire and the Humber who have a brain tumour and raises money for brain tumour research, as well as raising brain tumour awareness, so the more people that take part in our W.A.R Games event and raise money, the more people we can help. “I know Ellie would be so happy to see so many people and companies signing up, but just like me, she’d want more – it would be the best birthday present!”

People have already begun signing up for the fundraising obstacle course, including Naomi Campbell.

She said: “My buggy fitness friends and I are really looking forward to tackling the obstacles in the W.A.R Games event – they sound awesome.

“We are all mums and we couldn’t imagine how terrible it must be for people like Heather to lose a child to a brain tumour. If we can raise money
to help fight this disease and have some fun while we are doing it, all the better.”
