Hat-trick hero Sir Geoff Hurst and goalkeeping legend Gordon Banks will visit The Spa’s Theatre on Friday 6 May to reminisce and give an insight into the greatest day in English football history.

Both players were heroic members of England’s triumphant 1966 World Cup campaign that culminated in the famous 4-2 victory over West Germany with Sir Geoff securing a unique place in the history of football when he became the first and still the only player to score a hat-trick in a World Cup Final.

Four years later, the pair were still involved with England as they headed to Mexico to defend their World Cup crown where Banks produced the competition’s most iconic moment when he spectacularly kept out Pele’s header in the clash with Brazil in Guadalajara, a breath-taking effort which became known as the ‘Save of the Century’.

Gordon also represented Scarborough FC, making one appearance for the club during the Anglo-Italian tournament, in 1976, against Monza.

As part of the evening guests will also be treated to comedy from Mick Monroe, an auction and a chance to win some great '66 memorabilia.

Jo Ager, The Spa General Manager, said: “We are very excited about welcoming Sir Geoff and Gordon to the venue. With every passing trophyless tournament the exploits of Alf Ramsey’s squad become ever more legendary and we are delighted to be part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of English football’s greatest day."

Tickets for ‘The Legends of '66: An Evening with Gordon Banks & Sir Geoff Hurst’ go on sale on Friday 19 February, from The Spa’s Box Office (01723) 821888 and via www.scarboroughspa.co.uk
