ENTERPRISING pupils at Northstead School have set up their own shop - with a little help from their friends.
As part of a school project the youngsters secured sponsorship of £150 from John Mitchell Office Equipment in Falsgrave Road and set up their own company called Pencilmania.
They designed a logo, ordered stock and went on to publicise their business by putting up posters around school.
A Year 6 class of 28 pupils aged 10 and 11 have been taking part in the project, which has proved incredibly popular.
Lyn Standing, a Year 6 teacher and Key Stage 2 Phase Leader, said: “The children absolutely love it - we’ve had some amazing feedback.
“The shop sells staionery and is open in school on a Tuesday and Thursday lunchtime. It’s been so popular that we ran out of stock last week and had to buy in more!
“It’s teaching the children about teamwork, business sense and accounting, which are all skills for life in today’s world.” She also thanked John Mitchell’s for their support, saying: “They’ve been fantastic - we couldn’t have done it without them.”
