The popular 109-mile trail running along the coastline and North York Moors National Park has been shut near Farsyde Farm, south of Robin Hood's Bay.

A diversion is currently in place.

In a Facebook post, a spokesperson from the Cleveland Way National Trail said: "Due to the ongoing cliff slippage taking place on the Cleveland Way south of Robin Hood’s Bay near Farsyde Farm we have had to close this section temporarily and divert walkers onto other rights of way.

"This diversion will stay in place until the conditions are suitable for the path line to be set back."

From Robin Hood’s Bay where the Cleveland Way heads up Flagstaff steps, walkers are advised to take the Marnar Dale public footpath on the right to the Cinder Track.

They should then go left on the Cinder Track, turn off after 350 metres at the road bridge, go left again down Mark Lane and take the public footpath past Farsyde Farm to rejoin the Cleveland Way.

The diversion adds an additional 1.4 km to this length.
