Real nappy roadshows by council

PARENTS who would like to find out more about real nappies, as an alternative to disposable nappies, are being invited to a series of roadshow events organised by Scarborough Council.

The three events have been organised to coincide with Real Nappy Week – which starts on Monday – and will take place at:

l Scarborough Town Centre, outside Poundland in Westborough, next Thursday between 10am and 4pm

l The Evron Centre in Filey on Friday, May 20, between 9.30am and noon

l New Quay Road in Whitby on Friday, May 20, between 1.30pm and 4.30pm.

Donna Gaddass, recycling education officer at Scarborough Borough Council, said: “Real nappies are great for the environment and great for your pocket too.

“We are pleased to be working with Jody Smith – a Real Nappy Guru – to show parents, and parents to be, just how fantastic modern cloth nappies are.”

Every year three billion disposable nappies are thrown away in the UK every year with 90 per cent going to landfill.

But according to a spokeswoman for the Absorbent Hygiene Products Manufacturers Association claimed both kinds of nappy had a similar low level of impact to the environment.
