Record temperatures as we wave goodbye to May and welcome the start of meteorological summer

Thursday will see the start of meteorological summer as we bid farewell to spring and look forward to June.

We have enjoyed a mild spring in Britain.

The first day of summer in the astronomical calendar may not be until June 21, but the Met Office has been keen to mark the date with some statistics that prove this spring has been one of the warmest on record.
