RESIDENTS in Hunmanby Gap are swapping sunbathing for sacks of rubbish during a beach cleaning exercise.
The Hunmanby Gap Residents’ Association are holding an event to spruce up their sands on Sunday, August 7.
The big clean-up has been organised to coincide with the summer season reaching its peak, with visitor numbers set to increase at the venue.
Scarborough Council has provided residents with latex gloves, picking sticks and bin bags for the event.
Grant Imkpin, chairman of the Residents’ Association, said: “On our first litter pick we managed some 15 large sacks of rubbish.
“This time we are hoping for less, as it would be nice if visitors both enjoyed the beach, but also took their rubbish and dog dirt bags home, or deposited them in the bins provided.”
The free event will start at 3pm and people are invited to assemble at the pathway down to the beach to help out.
