Colleagues and friends needed more than a whip round and card to celebrate Ann Harper’s 25 years service at Saint Catherine’s Hospice.

They rallied round for a special send off party to wish Ann luck on her anniversary adventure.

Ann, who is director of nursing at the hospice, has now embarked on a gruelling trek from Lukla, near Kathmandu, to the base camp of Mount Everest.

The challenge will see her reach an altitude height of 5,322 metres, carrying a rucksack of vital supplies to the maximum weight of 15kg.

Her 18 day trek is raising funds for St Catherine’s to mark her 25 years at the hospice.

Before setting off on Friday Ann said: “I am looking forward to experiencing a different culture and the scenery will be awesome but most importantly I am trekking to raise awareness and funds for a very worthy cause. For me the trip will be the fulfilment of a personal ambition as well as a chance to support Saint Catherine’s and the fantastic work it does in the community.

“It will be amazing and I am very grateful for all the support and encouragement, donations and sponsorship I’ve had from family, friends and strangers.”

So far Ann has already raised more than £2,400 through sponsorship. To sponsor her visit www.justgiving.com/Ann-Harper.
