The exhumation of an unidentified woman which police have dubbed “the Sutton Bank body” is expected to begin at midnight tonight.
The skeletal remains were found in undergrowth on an unclassified road between Sutton Bank and the villages of Scawton and Rievaulx in 1981.
Police have been given permission to exhume her remains in Malton cemetery as part of a cold case review. DNA will be extracted in the hope that it will lead to her identity being established.
A religious minister will attend the exhumation and will perform a short service when the remains are reinterred on Wednesday.
