Hundreds of supporters have helped raise £3,547.08 at a summer fair and family day for Scarborough Hospital’s Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU).

The fair was held at Scalby Village Hall with more than 40 families who have benefited from SCBU’s care enjoying the entertainment on offer.

The funds will help purchase a double bed for the parent rooms, new activity tables for siblings to use and to improve other facilities within the parents’ suite.

Alison Gaythrope, Sister on SCBU, said: “I have wanted to organise a family day for as long as I can recall and it was just overwhelming to see so many past families who have been involved with the unit and such generosity. To raise over £3,500 on the day from all the stalls, games and donations is just fantastic.

“Thank you to everyone who contributed to the day whether by donating a raffle or tombola prize, having a stall or coming along with the family.”

Past SCBU parent Amanda Wilkinson, whose son Charlie was in for a week last year, said: “We had a great day at the fair and it was fantastic to see so much raised. It was lovely to see the nurses involved in Charlie’s care one year on and thank them again.

“We will always be grateful to the care and support given to us all as a family.”
