Fisherman Fred takes up president position

THE Friends of St Mary’s Church group has a new president.

Scarborough fisherman Fred Normandale has accepted an invitation from the group to succeed the late Lady Whittaker in the role.

Christine Cox, chairman of the Friends of St Mary’s Church said: “We are all very delighted about this new appointment and can think of no one else who would be more suitable to be our president with his connection with the old town of which St Mary’s Church is such a prominent living building. Not least he has always been very supportive of our work and someone we admire for his forthright approach.”

The group regularly holds coffee mornings at the Parish House and is preparing for its annual flower festival from May 20-23.
