A Scarborough fitness club rallied behind Saint Catherine’s by holding a fundraiser for the hospice.
Members of the Health and Fitness Club for the over 55s ran a raffle to support Saint Catherine’s, raising £177 for patient care. The club chose the charity after one of its members needed hospice services. The club meets at Scarborough Sports Centre on Filey Road on Monday and Wednesday mornings and activities include badminton, tennis, table tennis and use of the gym.
Saint Catherine’s Hospice provides in and out-patient care, neurology support, bereavement support and day care for patients across a 1,600 square mile area, including Scarborough, Filey, Bridlington, Driffield, Hunmanby, Ryedale and Whitby.
Each year the hospice cares for more than 2,000 people from that area, the largest geographical area of any hospice in Britain other than the highlands of Scotland. It costs £5.4m a year for Saint Catherine’s to provide its hospice services.
