Police have quizzed five men after a young woman claimed she was subjected to a “horrific” sex attack at the hands of the group.
Detectives interviewed the group, which includes at least one teenager, following the alleged attack which police say occurred at a Scarborough property.
Locals say the victim was rushed for specialist medical care in York following the late-night attack.
Sources have told The Scarborough News that friends and family have comforted her as officers continue their investigation.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Police received a report of a serious sexual assault against a woman aged in her 20s, which took place at a property in Scarborough at 9.15pm on Sunday February 21.
“Five local men aged between 19 and 24 years old were arrested in connection with the incident.
“They have all been released on bail, while the investigation continues.”
Locals say that an ambulance was called to the property in the aftermath of the attack to treat the woman, who is understood to have suffered injuries.
“What this woman seems to have endured is just absolutely horrific,” added the source.
“The emergency services seemed to have acted very quickly though and have treated this with the seriousness that it warrants.”
The group will answer bail on April 1 at Scarborough Police Station.
