Football in Yorkshire was rocked this morning by the news that former Scarborough Athletic player Danny Wilkinson had passed away.

It is believed that Wilkinson, 26, suffered a heart attack during his club Shaw Lane Aquaforce's Doodson Sport Trophy game against Brighouse Town.

The defender, who made 14 appearances for Boro after signing from Goole in January 2015, was taken to the Calderdale Royal Hospital in Halifax, but he failed to regain consciousness.

Shaw Lane chairman Craig Wood said in a statement: "The club would like to thank everyone for their heartfelt messages. There are no more words at this time."
