Members of a Scarborough breast cancer support group have given a welcome boost to funds at St Catherine’s Hospice.

The Friends group, which has been running for over 15 years and is for women recovering from cancer, formed a charity and has raised much money which they have given away to local causes.

Now the members are finishing as a charity they have decided to donate the final amount of £10,644.53 to Saint Catherine’s Hospice.

Several of the women are volunteers at the hospice and it was their choice to provide this money to support the work done by the staff of Saint Catherine’s.

The Friday Friends will continue to meet socially on a regular basis.

Director of patient services, Ann Harper, said: “This money will buy valuable equipment much needed for the treatment of our patients. As always we are amazed by the generosity of the community and these ladies have given us their time as well as their money for which we are truly grateful.”
