Friday marks worldwide day of prayer

THERE will be a special church service in Scarborough on Friday to celebrate Women’s World Day of Prayer.

It will be at the Church of St Martin-on-the-Hill, in South Cliff, from 10.30am.

The speaker will be the Rev Samantha Foster and members of St Martin’s CE Primary School Choir will be singing at the service.

Scarborough’s mayor and mayoress, Cllr John Blackburn and Jackie Blackburn, are also due to attend the service.

A spokeswoman said they would be praying for Malaysia. She added: “Over three million people world wide will be praying and worshipping together during an annual day of prayer using a form of service prepared by Christian women in Malaysia.

“This is always an exciting day as a great wave of prayer sweeps the world – beginning when the first service is held at the Queen Salote Girls School in Tonga and continuing around the world until the final service takes place, some 35 hours later, in neighbouring Western Samoa.”

Refreshments will be served following the service and all are welcome.
