THE future of Scalby Library will come under the microscope at a public meeting on Thursday.

Scarborough councillor Andrew Backhouse will act as chairman of the meeting, which will be held at the library from 6pm and will see North Yorkshire County Council representatives outline the proposals and take questions.

Facilities in Scalby, Ayton, Eastfield and Hunmanby are among those under threat as the county considers a proposal to close 24 of its 42 libraries as it seeks to find savings of £2.3 million over the next four years.

Members of the public have until the end of the month to complete questionnaires on the future of the county library service. They can be obtained from the libraries at Ayton, Scarborough, Eastfield, Filey, Hunmanby and Scalby.
