Caring colleagues at Yorkshire Coast Homes are helping lots of local good causes with a special gift which will help them get off to a great start in 2015.
Staff members have been fundraising all year, raising a total of £14,000 for the Yorkshire Coast Homes Charity Fund.
The colleagues voted at the start of the year to decide how they wanted the money to be spent and divided the money between 14 different causes.
The most votes and the biggest donation went to Saint Catherine’s Hospice which received £3,000. The cheque was presented by Kevin Bradshaw, Coastcall independent living manager, who was chosen to hand over the money after seeing for himself in 2014 the good the hospice can do.
His mum, Sandra, was a regular at the day hospice before her death in November. “She loved going to the day hospice,” Kevin said. “She made some friends there, enjoyed the entertainment and always talked about how well she’d been fed. It gave my dad a bit of respite, too. It was so calm in the hospice, such a nice atmosphere. You don’t walk into a sad place - you walk into somewhere really special.”
David Marshall, director of funding development at Saint Catherine’s, said: “We will certainly make sure it is put to good use to help other families.”
