Gifts fly to Afghan children

A LOCAL youngster showed his bright and caring side to help deprived schoolchildren in Afghanistan.

11-year-old Ethan Clarkson organised a collection of colouring pens, pencils, notebooks and small toys at Cayton School, to aid children in the country where his dad is serving his third tour as a Nursing Officer, helping military and civilians.

Ethan’s mum Paula Seymour said she was pleased with her son’s efforts and also of those who donated gifts.

She said: “I’m very proud of him. His dad spoke to him and told him the children didn’t have as many luxuries and Ethan said he’d like to send them something. Pencils and crayons are quite hard to get hold of so Ethan asked if he could make posters to hand out in school.

“In the end we sent out five parcels, there was about 10 kilos of stuff which is really good.”

The parcels have arrived safely and will be distributed among children at an Afghan school.
