Glaves Butchers, from Brompton, has been recognised at the Countryside Alliance Awards in London.

Glaves were already the regional winner in the butchers category and they went on to claim the highly commended runners-up award.

The Countryside Alliance received over 11,000 nominations in five categories, with only the best making it to the national final.

All its meat is sourced from the local area or from the firm’s farm before being processed in their on-site abattoir.

The owners have sought to diversify and go beyond the classic butchers model.

Scarborough and Whitby MP Robert Goodwill attended the awards and congratulated James and Antony Glaves at the event.

He said: “This award is testament to the amazing quality of the produce sold in the shop in Brompton and delivered to pubs, restaurants and caterers around the area. I am a particular fan of their pork pies which are sheer heaven.

“Glaves also now make their own black pudding, I was told, so I will be making a special effort to call in and try their version of one of my breakfast favourites.

“Special congratulations should go to all the staff and patriarch of the business, Brian, who was holding the fort at home today.”
