Pub of the year finalists announced

Time has been called on voting for this years Pub of the Year competition, and five finalists will now compete for the honour.

Up for the award will be The Crown Tavern, In Scalby Road, The Golden Ball in Sandside, Indigo Alley in North Marine Road, Scholars in Somerset Terrace and The Tap and Spile in Falsgrave Road.


Cars damaged after vandals strike

Rampaging vandals have scraped and sprayed bright paint on at least nine vehicles parked on Scarborough’s Crescent.

Car owners woke up to the damage this morning, which police have described as “mindless vandalism”.

t is the latest in a string of vandalism attacks in the town over the past month which have seen cars scratched and tyres slashed.


Look out for liner

People in Scarborough and along the east coast could catch a glimpse of the Queen Elizabeth ocean liner on Saturday.The vessel is scheduled to sail from Southampton on 27 July at approximately 16.30hrs and is due to arrive in Edinburgh on 29 July at approximately 08.00hrs.The Cunard liner is at sea on 28 July and this is the day the Queen Elizabeth is very likely to sail past the East Coast.

The estimated time is around 4pm and it will be 12 to 25 miles off the coast - so you will need a pair of binoculars.

Building named after Sir Jim

A new housing development in North Marine Road has been named Savile Court in honour of broadcasting legend Sir Jimmy Savile.

he star famously held the town in such high regard that he spent much of his time here and was buried in Woodlands Cemetery following his death last year.
