Ground was broken today on Scarborough’s new University Technical College (UTC).
The new education facility is being constructed on the Weaponness Coach Park and business leaders, Robert Goodwill MP and the UTC’s first students were on hand to mark the occasion.
The Scarborough UTC is an industry-orientated school and will deliver courses to 14-19 year olds.
Scarborough UTC bosses says it will open in September 2016, following a “significant government investment programme”.
The University of Hull is the lead education partner. The UTC will also be supported by international businesses such as McCain, Unison Ltd, Scarborough Borough Council, Castle, Dale Power Solutions, Deep Sea Electronics, Firmac, GCHQ, Plaxton (ADL), Schneider Electric Ltd, Severfield, SWC Trade Frames and York Potash.
Principal Tim Englefield said: “This is a big day as it proves to everyone that the UTC is real and we are looking forward to taking in our first 105 students next September.”
