Eye room benefits patients

A NEW “clean room” is now in operation for eye patients at Scarborough Hospital – allowing patients to be treated in outpatients rather than having to go to theatre.

The room in the ophthalmology department is being used to help deliver the hospital’s Lucentis service to patients with wet Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD).

Lucentis is a sight-saving injection, given by healthcare professionals, and has been available in Scarborough since April – meaning patients no longer have to travel to York or Bridlington.

The introduction of the sterile room means that patients can now have this treatment in the outpatient department rather than the theatre in the Dales unit.
