WOMEN who have undergone breast surgery at Scarborough Hospital were invited to attend an evening focus group.
This is the first time that the trust has organised an event of this kind, which was held to discuss the experiences of patients in a social setting, rather than a more formal hospital environment.
Pamela Hayward Sampson, enhanced recovery nurse, explained that the meeting had followed on from an inpatient survey involving breast care patients last year.
The purpose of the meeting was to give those patients who have undergone breast surgery a forum to discuss their experiences.
This feedback will then be used to make changes to improve the in-patient pathway.
The evening was chaired by Nicki McNaney, director of nursing at Scarborough Hospital.
To enable patients to express their views freely, breast care nurses were not directly involved in the discussion.
However, they were on hand to provide help and support when required.
The event took place at the Palm Court Hotel.
