SCARBOROUGH residents will be able to get a free health check-up next month, as part of a county-wide initiative to combat HIV.
A day of free sexual health tests is to be held throughout Yorkshire on June 7 to help the estimated 25 per cent of HIV sufferers who are unaware they have the condition.
The day has been named as the first Yorkshire Know Your HIV Status Day, and will see test centres throughout the district welcome anyone for a free test.
The initiative is part of Yorkshire MESMAC’s Testing Times programme, a sexual health project which began in Leeds and has spread into North Yorkshire.
The initiative follows news last year that new HIV infections in the UK have doubled in the past decade, leading to experts telling GPs to offer testing to all adult male patients in some areas,
